The Potty Chair

Placing a potty chair in the bedroom was a necessity as Mom got weaker. We did three things to make it more comfortable.
1. We made sure we had a "neat" potty cover for each season. This makes it a little less obtrusive.
2. We padded the arm so she could push against it with her foot. Pictured is a piece of 3/4" pipe insulation from our local home repair supply. After a few months red duct tape was used to hold it on more securely.
3. We fastened the chair to the bed so it would not tip over and cause a fall. Details Below

Securing the Chair
We secured the potty chair to the bed with "Nylon Tyes" purchased in the Air Conditioning Department of our local Home Depot. We use the 24" or 36" tyes for the strength. black or white.
First you place the chair next to the foot of the bed. Adjust it so it fits against 3 places on the bed, two pictured here, and the third against the rail with the front leg. Place the tyes loosely in place, adjusting the chair before tightening any tye.

On the front leg, use two tyes in a "chris cross" to secure the front leg abd stablize the chair. Now tighten all tyes a little at a time, adjusting before tightening again.
These four "heavy duty" tyes will securely hold the chair and prevent unnecessary falls.
Note: The chair will get in your way when making the bed, etc., but it's worth it.
